If You Don’t Follow This Interview Tip, You Will Hate Yourself Later.

Interview TipsThere is a frequent mistakes that you can make when turning up for interviews that is pretty much guaranteed to reduce your chances of getting the job.

You would be surprised just how many people make this mistake. This is one of our key , because its something that comes up so frequently. Say that you are interviewing for a new key person in your team. You need them because you are extremely busy. You have worked through to a short list and booked the slots for each candidate spread over several days. You then go to an important meeting with your boss. Imagine you surprise when part way through the meeting, one of your team knocks on the door to let you know that the candidate is in reception for the interview.

However, it is an hour earlier than you are expecting them…… This causes a number of problems. At one level, it begs a question about having got the arrangements right, which can make you look incompetent in front of your boss & staff. Secondly, you question if you have got the time right and may need to check the emails confirming the arrangements. It then dawns on you that the candidate is really an hour early! At best this will put someone’s back up and it puts a question mark against you.

I have know managers get offended about early arrivals. Most will simply make you wait until the appointed hour. A few may try and see you then, but you have disrupted their time. It is very disrespectful of their time to arrive too early.

Our interview tip has always been to find the office about an hour before the interview, but find some way of killing the time. Go and have a Coffee and relax. At exactly 5 minutes before the interview is due, arrive in reception and announce your arrival. Even 20 minutes is too early, so be wary. One great thing about having found the offices early is that you can be more relaxed. The worst possible thing is arriving late, it sets a bad impression AND stresses you in the rush to get there.

Many a keen candidate has scuppered their chances by arriving too early, don’t let it be you!
