Avoid the Number 1 Mistake In CVs and Resumes
September 2, 2008
There is a single mistake that can sink your changes of getting an interview. However, you would be surprised how many times this happens!
Your first impression with an agency and employer is created by your CV or resume. If this is not 100% spot-on, it will torpedo your chances quicker than anything else. Employers and agencies are bombarded by calls, emails and letters each and every day. As a result, they are looking for ways to cut through the chaff and get straight to the few candidates that are worth seeing.
So you can imagine the impact of your documents if they contain glaring, obvious errors.
And….. At the top of the list of dodgy mistakes are spelling mistakes!
In this day and age Microsoft Word has an integrated spelling checker and even free alternatives such as Open Office all have spell checkers.
If you have managed to send out a covering letter, resume or CV with spelling mistakes, you should be shot! There simply is no excuse and the employer will see this the same way.
The bottom line is that you must spend sufficient time and effort checking your documents. Spelling mistakes are the easiest to spot. If you can’t do this, it doesn’t say much about how well you would perform for an employer does it……
